Generally, the conception of a toddler floor bed is not new. Naturally, in many cultures, people sleep on the floor and I’m sure you’ve heard about the Montessori-style nursery. The remarkable thing about such a room is that the child sleeps on a floor bed.
You can easily find so many designs for the Montessori bed, but basically all designs are based on one principle. Your kid should have freedom of movement, or in other words, be able to move independently around their room. If you have a floor bed, your baby wakes up and starts to play on their own in the morning. During the night your kid can calmly come to your room if they need help instead of crying alone in a crib. It can be hard to tell the best time to switch from a crib to a toddler floor bed and it is really up to you. Because of this, some parents started to use Montessori beds as early as 2-3 months. However, we came up with this floor bed solution much later when our baby kept crying at night because he was alone and couldn’t get out of his crib. While searching for solutions, we came across the idea of using a floor bed on a budget.

DIY or Buy

You can buy expensive Montessori floor bed frames or go for a DIY version and simply lay a mattress directly on the floor. However, two things held me from laying the mattress on the floor. First of all, I didn’t want my kid to fall off the bed while sleeping, plus I wanted to add some fun pictures of cars he loves to the bed frame.
I wanted to use the same crib mattress that I already had instead of buying a new one. So, one morning I came up with an idea to use some Home Depot boxes that I already had. Before long, we had our own floor bed made out of cardboard: safe and ready to use.
